The Players:

At Duck Up's core is a creative team who bring talent, successful entrepreneurial experience with education and expertise in all areas of television, motion picture film and video production. The team is complemented by a support group of consultants and advisers in the industry.

The following individuals make up the creative and management team:

Kelley Baker: Director, Writer, Producer, Sound Design

Oregon’s very own, Kelley is well known for working with other people. He was the sound designer on six of Gus Van Sant's feature films including, MY OWN PRIVATE IDAHO, GOOD WILL HUNTING, and FINDING FORRESTER. He designed the sound on Todd Haynes feature film, FAR FROM HEAVEN, with Dennis Quaid and Julianne Moore. He was the picture editor and sound designer on Will Vinton’s THE ADVENTURE’S OF MARK TWAIN, and MEET THE RAISINS for CBS. He has also written and directed three full‑length features, KICKING BIRD, THE GAS CAFE and BIRDDOG. His book, THE ANGRY FILMMAKER SURVIVAL GUIDE: MAKING THE EXTREME LOW BUDGET FILM was published recently. He has directed commercials, corporate and educational videos. His clients have included NIKE, Blue Cross/Blue Shield, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Department of Juvenile Justice, Howard University, Mercedes Benz/Freightliner Trucks, and Wells Fargo Bank. He attended the University of Southern California, receiving degrees in Film Production, and did post graduate work at the American Film Institute. He received a Pioneer Fund Emerging Documentary Filmmaker grant for his film CRIMINAL JUSTICE.  He received a Western States Media Arts Fellowship, and grants from the SOROS Fund, The Collins Foundation, Oregon Arts Commission, The Jackson Foundation, Rose E. Tucker Charitable Trust, and The Maurie Clark Foundation. He did documentaries for the National Endowment for the Arts, and The Juvenile Justice Office of the Department of Justice. Kelley’s films have aired on PBS, The Learning Channel, and Canadian and Australian television and shown at Film Festivals in London, Sydney, Annecy and Edinburgh, Chicago, Sundance, Mill Valley and Cinequest/San Jose. The Stirling Art Centre at Macrobert University (Stirling, Scotland) showed a retrospective of Kelley’s work. The Pacific Film Archives and The Northwest Film Center have hosted a retrospective of Kelley's short films. Recently he has been touring the US and the UK, teaching his subversive brand of filmmaking at workshops and showing his films to audiences at Art House Theaters, Colleges, Universities and Media Art Centers in over 250 cities and 400 venues.

Janet Martinez: Executive Producer, Project Manager
Born and raised in Los Angeles, Janet produced movies for Lifetime Television (IDENTITY THEFT: THE MICHELLE BROWN STORY and VIDEO VOYEUR: THE SUSAN WILSON STORY) and worked on series television and reality programming. VOYEUR went to Washington along with U.S. Senator Mary Landrieu (D-La) and was instrumental in changing federal legislation and garnered one of the highest ratings in Lifetime's history. She developed and worked on projects for ABC, NBC, CBS and Bravo and worked closely with actors such as Angie Harmon (LAW AND ORDER), Annabella Sciorra (THE SOPRANOS), Jamey Sheridan (ICE STORM and SYRIANA), and Kimberly Williams-Paisley (ACCORDING TO JIM and FATHER OF THE BRIDE). She has also worked exclusively with writers in the Writer's Guild of America (WGA). Janet began her career in Public and Media Relations handling news and multi-million dollar events. Janet also studied at the American Conservatory Theater (ACT) in San Francisco and Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute in LA.

John King: Account Executive, Producer, Photographer
John’s media career started as a process camera operator and photo lab technician for the state of Georgia. Three years later, he became a photo journalist for the US Navy. After that, he was a counselor and photography teacher for the YMCA Challenge Program for teens in criminal confinement until he pursued a career of sales and marketing a course. In 2004 he became a producer with Portland community media producing series and documentaries. He was also co-producer and director of Citywide Talent search of eleven Portland high-schools called Teen Scene that utilized the entire Memorial Coliseum complex and proved what a wonderful and talented city Portland Oregon is. He’s currently the media outreach rep on the board of directors of the Miracles Club of Portland, a clean and sober club developing a multi-million dollar residential housing complex and social club in Northeast Portland.

Jenna Buescher-Hill: Animator, Graphic Designer
As a graphic designer, Jenna has a passion for the creative, including photography, motion graphics and videography. She began artistan studies in Minneapolis and graduated from Pacific Northwest College of Art in Portland. She won a Telly Award for Best Collegiate Production on the Robert Miribal Performance. With her husband, Joe Hill, she helped found AllStyle Productions, an event & corporate videography company and is responsible for all web, graphic design, still photography, marketing and client relations.

John Kirby: Business Manager, Associate Producer
John became involved in videography and creative media while getting his degree in Communications and Film from the University of Oregon where he also was publicity director for the Associated Students of U of O. After graduating, he worked in the broadcast production and creative departments for Ketchum Advertising, the third largest ad agency in San Francisco. He got his feet wet working on accounts such as The Beef Industry Council, No. California Acura Dealers and Beatrice Hunt-Wesson. Before joining Duck Up, he was the regional sales rep for ViewSonic Corporation, a global manufacturer of digital visual display technology where he established and maintained strong, long-term business relationships with his reseller clients from the eastern states. John's world-class communication skills make him highly qualified in account management, producing and fundraising.

DUCK UP PRINCIPALS
 
Jay Tormohlen; FOUNDER and CEO
Writer, Director, Producer, Marketing, Graphic Designer
His latest feature script WATCH DAWG is now in pre-production. Several of his screenplays have placed first, second and fourth or have been finalists in competitions including the Nichol Fellowship, Indie Gathering, Slamdance, Writer’s Place, Scriptapalooza, Page International, American Accolades, Red Inkworks, Writer’s on the Storm, Filmmaker’s International Screenwriting Awards and Expo 5. He’s written and directed short films as well as completed over a dozen feature screenplays while making a living writing articles for national magazines, commercials, marketing materials, and web site content. He’s lived and worked around the globe much of his life, including working with BBC as a Peace Corps volunteer establishing and producing daily educational programming in the Indian Ocean area, for which he received recognition from UNICEF and the US Senate. His experience also covers directing, writing, marketing, graphic design and illustration, web design, management and sales training, and photography for major national and international corporations, for which he’s won national, state and city awards and contests. He has founded, operated and sold several successful companies in the U.S. and abroad, including a web, graphic and marketing agency that received Portland Chamber’s Top Ten Growth Award. His clients have included national and international corporations such as Monsanto, British Airways, Verizon and AT&T; federal and state government agencies; and national associations and non-profit organizations.

Joe Hill: PRESIDENT
Cinematographer, Editor and Producer
Joe graduated from university with a degree in Television Production and Film Studies. His documentary cinematography was recently honored by the Northwest Film Festival and another work was the featured film at Angeliciti Film Festival. Over the past decade he has sharpened his set of skills on a variety of projects including music videos, internet commercials, broadcast commercials, documentaries, short films, television based programming, and wedding videos. He’s also worked at Portland and Vancouver TV stations as camera operator and director of government programming and local events. Some of his most notable achievements have come from his work on several Adidas commercial campaigns with such athletes as Kevin Garnett, Dwight Howard and Tim Duncan.
